It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
